SRC Seismic Reservoir Characterization Project

General information

The Seismic Reservoir Characterization Project (SRC) is a research project carried out by the Reservoir Geophysics Group (RGG) at the Institute of Solid Earth Physics at the University of Bergen (UoB), Norway. The project started autumn 1998.

A main objective of the project is to outline strategies for enhanced use of seismic data in estimation of lithology and reservoir properties of subsurface rocks, and the ability to monitor the production of hydrocarbon reservoirs (time lapse studies). A suite of real data covering a hydrocarbon reservoir have been provided by the sponsors to serve as a test site for evaluation of the various estimation strategies and methods. The test data include seismic data collected at the surface (3D), at the ocean bottom (4C) and in wells (VSP), together with conventional well log data.

The current research topics are within:

  • Integrated petrophysical and seismic modelling of hydrocarbon reservoirs
  • Elastic and seismic modelling of anisotropic shales
  • Investigation for seismic attributes of rock properties

The research work is sought to be conducted partly in cooperation with sponsors (data analysis and interpretation), and furthermore, the project involves candidates fulfilling their thesis work for the M. Sc. degree. The results of the research work are actively used in the education and design of thesis work of both M. Sc. and Ph.D. students.
