The Norwegian National Seismic Network consists of 33 seismic station distributed over Norway and the Norwegian arctic islands. Most of the stations are sending data in real-time and are jointly processed to detect and locate earthquakes in Norway and adjacent areas. The data from the network are also used in scientific studies to better understand the distribution and causes of the seismicity, as well as the structure of the Earth.
The main responsibilty for the operation of the networtk and data analysis lies with the Department of Earth Science, University of Bergen. NORSAR is subcontracted to participate in the data processing and to provide data from selected sites.
