Streamer winch hydraulics - specifications - pressure and flow rate

Winch manufacturer Ulmatec Baro AS has these recommendations (ref email 5 Nov 2014) re. hydraulics for larger streamer winches, with reference to Nessie-3 winch shown above:

"At that time [when the above winch was put into service] common streamer winch hydraulic pressure on seismic vessels was 175 bar. In recent years there has been a tendency to see an increase in hydraullic pressure and today 220-230 bar is usual. Pressure reducing valve can be used if old winch will be used on new vessel. Hydraulic utilities for new winches should be able to supply 100-200 liter/minute depending on desired line pull and -speed. Dimensioning of hydraulic pump is also dependent on the number of winches that should be able to run simultaneously."

SEISMIC STREAMER - SHORT ("MINI-STREAMER")

Misc

Recommendation from GEO MARINE regarding deployment of mini-streamer. This is while operating in ice free waters.

Streamer Outrigger
Too many times streamer perfomance is compromised by a bad towing configuration. The use of a 6-8 m outrigger is imperative to keep the streamer out of the prop wash.
